Humans throughout their lives will receive the influence of three main functions of the educational environment, namely family, school and community. The three environments are referred to as the three central functions of the educational environment. Early educational environment is the family environment, in a society that is simple yet complex social structure, thinking the child is largely limited to families, in society, the family possessed two functions: the function of production and consumption functions. To these two functions have a considerable influence on the child. Future lives of children in traditional societies are generally not much different style of life of parents.

In these societies, parents who teach knowledge and skills necessary for life, parents also train and provide guidance on various aspects of life until the child becomes an adult and independent.

But in modern societies where industrialization is growing and requires specialization, then the education which was originally the responsibility of the family, now taken over the school and other social institutions. At the beginning, the function of the mother was taken by preschool education. At a more complex, functions of vocational education are not on the father again, because it was taken over by schools and colleges.

Formation of attitudes and character in modern society taken over by the school functions and other social organizations, such as youth organizations, religious institutions, mass media and so on.
