Take a tour of the virtual smart house

A WEBSITE showcasing how technology can be used to support independence, safety and security in the home for people with learning disabilities has been launched by the charity Hft.

The virtual smart house is an online computer-generated version of a demonstration house that the charity used to take to exhibitions around the country.

Among the innovations on show are a fingerprint-entry system, voice prompts to remind people to do things, such as close the fridge door, movement sensors that communicate and a quick-cooling hob and lamps that dim when touched.

Hft director of information systems Steve Barnard said the website was intended to allow people to try out assistive technology from their own homes.
