Education Development Base On Region In Sub-Province

Abstract, Indonesian people pay a great attention to the improvement of human resources quality through education sector as seen in the foundations, functions and purposes of national education (Law No. 20/2003). In line with the Law No. 32/2004 on Regional Autonomy requiring district/city government to assume responsibility for education, attempt to increase Human Development Index / HDI (people’s education, health and purchasing power parity) becoming area obligation.

This study adopts   a quality method which in descriptive data, and approach in use is a descriptive analysis of the subject: Indramayu District Office of Education and its officials, Heads of Sub-district office, and principals (Elementary school / MI, Junior and Senior Secondary School Teacher). This study is aimed at measuring Education Index (Literacy Rate and School Retention Rate) as an indicator HDI improvement.


The finding shows that the district government of Indramayu has seriously run literacy program, indicated by decreased number of illiterate people amount to 119.003 people in 2006, down to 66.070 people in 2008, or embracing approximately 50% of illiterate people to participate in the literacy program.

The district’s school retention rate of 5.93 in 2003 has amounted to 6.51 in 2008. it means that the district government of Indramayu has made serious effort to develop education in order to foster school retention rate in Indramayu district. (Full Text. On author).
